For me, it's the friends and family that create my team. its great to see so many people walking for an important cause

I must admit that I am extremely partial to Michigan's Step Out Walk!  This will be my fourth year participating in Step Out, and the second year as event chair. Last year I'm proud to say we had over 3,000 walkers signed up for the event, and raised over $400k!  That is awesome!

Last year in particular I really enjoyed seeing the friendly competition among teams, all trying to get a spot into the team VIP tent!  Many teams are wearing team t-shirts, which is fantastic, and some are starting to carry team flags.  There has been really creative fundraising efforts by both teams and individuals, and the spirit of our walk is awesome.

This year the walk will be held again at the Detroit Zoo - a spectacular venue for the walk. With sponsorship by a local radio station, live music, breakfast served, vendor booths, guest celebrities, fantastic teams, the ability to visit all the animals, and the overall spirit of the event, our walk is terrific!

That would be the Tri-Citys (in Bristol VA) and Knoxville TN walks. Why you ask... Because I will be there.

From the several I've done since becoming involved with the ADA, each Step Out Walk and each Tour de Cure at the various cities have had their own uniquiness and special qualties for that specific location.

They're all great - I've yet to find a group of diabetes supports at any of the events that weren't a great group of people!
