Hello Red Striders!
Though I do not have diabetes, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for proudly wearing red and participating in Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes! We hope you'll use this forum to discuss the walk and your team, but more importantly to share your experiences with others who understand what it means to walk every day with diabetes.

One thing I've consistently heard from people who attend Step Out is that the visual impact of all those Red Strider hats really brings home the prevalance of diabetes. No matter how many times we talk about the statistics, that sea of red that represents how many people are directly affected is a huge wake-up call.

The hats are awesome for the walks! I am diabetic, and I appreciated being recognized the first year I walked by receiving the red hat . It has also been fun to collect a walk pin each following year and adding it to the front of the hat. Besides recognizing the Red Striders, it also helps to build the spirit of the walk itself.

They didn't exst on my first walk, but they have made a tremendous change for the better!
Seeing all the Red hats is great and applaling at the same time -
Great in the solidarity shown for the ride,
Appaling at the sheer number of people effected by this disease
