Metformin & Grapefruit

Hi,
I am hearing that the two are not compatible?  Is this true?  If so, how about sugar free Fresca which has grapefruit in it.  Thanks.

Metformin & Grapefruit

Metformin doesn't have any warning about grapefruit.  There were a few small studies where it did cause some problems in rats, but those studies were small and so were the rats LOL.  Even the scientist doing the studies didn't recommend giving up drinking/eating the grapefruit.

Metformin & Grapefruit

I never had any problems with the two while I was taking metformin.

Metformin & Grapefruit

This erroneous idea seems to pop up every year or so, but metformin and grapefruit are fine in combination.

Perhaps the confusion comes from the fact that grapefruit is to be avoided when taking statin medications, such as Lipitor, for high cholesterol...
