red wine and chocolate could help to prevent type 2 diabetes

I took the subject line directly out of the article, so don't think I'm a believer in such miracles!

Here's the link: Red Wine and Chocolate

There are only a few things that Morris and I probably agree on, but I think both of us will happily adopt red wine and chocolate consumption as "medicinal"!

Cheers!!!

:smileylol:  You have to sign-up at that site to read the article.  Is this the same article about the study  http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/01/20/chocolate-and-red-wine-can-beat-diabetes-study-claims/.  Great timing for the wine and chocolate industry since Valentine's Day is not far off.  We can all celebrate with the finer things in life...hehe.

I do eat a square or two of dark chocolate most evenings.  High percentage of cacoa and less than 2 carbs per square....satisfies my chocolate addiction.

I guess you have to register to see the article.  But I can certainly agree with you and Morris about medicinal red wine and chocolate.  I do eat one or two squares of dark chocolate every day.  It's a potent antioxidant especially for the heart.  Now if I could just get medical marijuana...lol.

Same here! I've been a chocoholic for a long time now :smileyhappy:

Like Marty, I have some chocolate most days, just a little dark chocolate.....

And would have been consuming wine if I didn't have to stop for medical reasons.....

• Diabetes on both sides of my family.
• Assumed trouble metabolizing sugar as long as I can remember; migraines induced by hunger, very sleepy after meals high in carbohydrates from childhood. Learned how to avoid sugar and lots of complex carbs early on.
• Since early 2000s, "prediabetes" controlled through low carb diet and exercise, mostly walking. FBG 95-105, A1c below 6; glucose tolerance test was borderline.
• But weight drifted upwards but working on it.
• NAFLD brought under control with pravastatin.
• Metformin ER, 500 mg, started sept 2013 when A1c reached 6.5 despite diet and exercise regiment since early 2000s. A1c back down to ~6.0.

Oh great, now you tell me afterwords.

If you find a study saying beer and pizza
Could prevent it, I'll disagree! !!

Dark Choc....we out here in the Midwest
Like our milk Choc....like Snickers, Hersey,
Mars bars, Reese's peanut butter cups,
Almond joy, peanut clusters.

About the only dark Choc we have
Is mounds.......but a mounds each
Day for antioxidents doesn't
sound bad!

Ahhhhh modern science

Red wine and chocolate can be a great combination.  Cabernet or merlot seems to go well with chocolate, chocolate ice cream or brownies--and the alcohol can blunt the effect of the carbs on blood sugar.

At a meeting on Monday, the host baked brownies for dessert, and served them with a bottle of "Rather Ripped Red" already open and on the table..  Not sure what kind of blend that wine was, but I was not the only one who remarked on how well they worked together!

Morris,
A good port and dark chocolate are great together. Throw in some cheese and you have all the food groups that matter.:smileyhappy:
