quick way to bring down blood sugar level?

I was diagnosed last year (ac1 13) and pretty good about taking readings.  but i haven't in a few months.  just woke up and decided to start tracking again and my morning reading was 248.  any way to bring it down quickly?

Is this a fasting humber?  if so, eat a low carb breakfast...a couple of eggs and 1/2 apple.

If you have already eaten, than move, walk, excercise.

Short of taking insulin - NO.  There is no fast way to bring a reading down.  Taking appropriate meds, controlling your diet, and exercising will help you gain overall control of diabetes and the BG readings.  If you haven't been taking your meds or watching your diet, I would suggest a doctor's appt much sooner than later to discuss matters.

Re: quick way to bring down blood sugar level?

When I have a high number and haven't eaten, part of me wants to eat and the other part says to skip the meal.  From experience, I would say as others have....eat first a small low carb breakfast, then get exercising....walking, bike....whatever you do, just go do it!

Too much of a good food will raise my blood glucose.

Wow that seems scary.  I would def. exercise.  Are you taking any meds?  If so why hasn't your Dr. prescribed any.  My FBS was 248 at DX and my A1c was 11.4.  Good Luck getting back on the wagon.

Re: quick way to bring down blood sugar level?

While a fasting blood glucose of 248 is high, you are not in any immediate danger.  When I was diagnosed, my fasting number was 235, and it had been around that for at least 8 months, as near as I can tell.  I can understand the desire to get the number down right away, but absent insulin that probably isn't happening.  What you can do, however, is get down within the ADA guidelines (fasting below 140, peak below 180) within a week or two.  Low carb diet, exercise, and getting back on meds if you have stopped them is the way to do it.  If you have stopped meds, it would be a good idea to call your doctor for advice on how to get started again.

If you want to get your numbers even lower, that should be possible with continued effort.  But the main thing is to get back on your program and get those numbers down consistently.

If your fasting number is that high your after meal number could possibly go into the 500 range!  You might very well be headed back to the 13 A1C range again, it's very dangerous!!!!

Numbers that high aren't necessarily brought down quickly but with major lifestyle changes.  Here's how to do it:  click here

You really need to take control of this or risk major complications.  When did you last see a doctor?
