For the last three weeks or so I have began to add more exercise back to my disease management plan. I admit to falling of the bandwagon last fall and through the winter..No excuses except football season, and the winter cold. I restarted with walking, and recently started going to the gym for 30 minute bike rides at a cardio level (140 heart rate).
More than anything else I have noticed that this has began to pay enormous benefits... I feel very good after the walks, and more so after the cardio. My BG is responding well....I just tested at 69 a few minutes ago. I think with a little more weight loss I might be able to manage on diet and exercise alone..Time will tell.
What has your experience been, and how do you work the third leg of the disease management into your routine?

Congrats, Rick. You just added another important tool to your arsenal and, on top of that, it offers instant result. ![]()

Good for you Rick!! I'm doing a lousy job of working in the third leg of disease mgt. I know what I need to do, but by the time I get home from work, I'm tired and have a hard time getting motivated to do anything. I'm working on getting my butt motivated and out the door!!!

I walk my dog early in the morning for about 20 miutes, which is more for his benefit than mine. My blood sugar is usually really good in the morning and after breakfast.
Then after lunch and dinner, I'll walk 10-15 minutes and get on my stationary bike for 10-15 minutes each.
Then my evening workout is 20-30 minutes on my bike, and then I do some resistence on the floor while watching some TV.
That's what works for me. Every little bit after meals helps!

That goes for me, too! It is my first offensive weapon against my diabetes.

I've felt this, esp. the day after when I actually feel skinny! If I could just keep it up, think of the possibilities. I have no excuses, except that my dog refused to walk after passing the 12th house on the corner. She just dead stops and refuses to move! Angel is an English Springer Spaniel, one of the loves of my life. She's 5..... and stubborn!

Metformin 500 mg, Midodrine (beta blocker), Propranolol (lowers heart rate), Lyrica (fibromyalgia), Celebrex (psoriatic arthritis), Cymbalta (depression), Klonopin (anxiety)
Exercise: walking with my dog Angel, treadmill and weights, bicycle - just added - short rides to gain endurance

I try to walk 15-20 minutes a day about 5 days a week. I would love to walk more but I have fibromylgia and some days that is all I can do. As the weather gets warmer and I feel better I will walk about 30 minutes. Right now I am having some issues with my blood pressure meds so I hurt even more. It is part of my diabetes routine. Have a great day.

Have you tried taking treats along? When all else fails with my 12 year-old stubborn dog, I resort to bribery. ![]()

My goal is to walk for at least 30, but usually 60 minutes five days a week. I have recently been using my mini-trampoline for 15 minutes each day as well. The mini has helped with dietary indiscretions (like the small cup of ice cream at lunch today
). By using it for 15 minutes after lunch, I was able to drop my BG number 26 points. I'm definitely seeing the benefit of exercise.
Diagnosed T2 1/12/2012
A1c 5.8 2/13
A1c 6.0 7/12
A1c 6.0 3/12
A1c 6.5 1/12
No meds - diet and exercise only
Mild left-sided arm lymphedema, so no BG checks on that side
