hi, noodles 13,
well, if you are doing things right (watching carbs like a hawk), i would think, like most of us, the pounds will melt off, you won't even realize it.
when i started, i didn't have a clue as to what a carb was. but thanks to this site (esp. alan and lizzy with all their links and info), i kept my carbs UNDER 25 per meal. within the first 6 months, i dropped 40 lbs, and my A1C was down from 6.5 to 5.9, if i remember right.
2 years since that 6 month, i bottomed out at 108. ( i started at 168, 5'4" 61 post menapause). last A1C was 5.6.
i am on metformin 500 2x'a a day, also a statin (for all the protein, meats etc), and my doctor is delighted. she tells me i'm the best patient she has! ( i love that!!)
anyway, i'd watch the carbs, that's all i look at anymore.
oh, and i'm a server (intense), and do yard work, clean my own house, and hardly EVER eat out. i pack a "lunch" so i can go the distance, and my co workers think i'm crazy cause i work in a restuarant!
but, it works for me!
i don't mind being on meds, it's the insulin i don't ever want to be dependant on. and my doctor feels the rate i'm going, i shouldn't ever be on it.
good luck, and welcome to the best place on earth for advice, support, and bravos!!

jacksgramma00,
I'm new to this... what's a statin and why do you need it for protein, meats etc? Thanks I'm learning sooooo much on this site!

Statins aren't needed for meats really, it's for the saturated fats in the diet. Meats especially have higher rates of saturated fat than some other foods. There's currently a debate about whether diet really affects the numbers that much really, or if high cholesterol is basically hereditary.
Notice too, I said "saturated" fats, not the good fats which, like omega-3, can actually improve cholesterol numbers.
