And why more diabetes awareness is needed.
I get Type 1 diabetes memes through my Facebook feed and approximately 15 minutes ago, they posted an interesting capture of a feed between a group of teenagers. You can read it HERE. WARNING: NSFW, NSFK: Language.
Say what? The contagious kind of "diabetees"?? [must love the inability to spell amongst teens] Hmm, I wonder whether it's type 1, type 2, LADA, MODY, or some as of yet unannounced variation. ADA, is there something you've been hiding from us?
It's funny in its ignorance, but it's also disturbing that one of our nation's most widespread conditions -- and one of the fastest growing conditions in the world -- is still so misunderstood. Then again, this is between teenagers. Many of them seem to barely understand that 1+1=2. ![]()

Sharon,
Yes, it was obviously an evil diabetic who sneezed on us that caused us to develop diabetes, too. No wait, I think it might have been a cylon that caused my diabetes. At least I don't have the mutant combination of herpes and hepatitis that girl obviously thinks is around!

And here I thought herpatitis could be treated by herpetologists selling snake oil. Just goes to show how little I know.

I know there's a dark side of this Angela -- the ignorance is shocking -- but your thread as a whole (especially Pam's remark) has me absolutely laughing out loud. It's just striking me as hilarious. Wouldn't you just love to write an SNL script spoofing that as an actual conversation?!? Still LOL....

Teens may have a corner on language but not on diabetes dumbness.
I have a tenant in his 60s that is in sad shape. He lives alone and I wonder what happens to people in his condition. He has type 2 and blood sugars run 200 up. I also wonder if he has beginning Alzheimers. He does not have the capacity to take care of himself.
I was discussing this with a friend that will soon be a senior citizen. I told her when we were there he was eating...just a big bowl of Rice a roni. She said that the rice was good but the mixture wasn't. I said it wouldn't be good for me. She said a (major) hospital did a thing with her dad in the 60s. They hospitalized him and fed him only rice for a few days, then they added pineapple. After 2 weeks he was cured, needed nothing further for many years until he was in his 70s. That's her story and she's sticking to it.
So here's your cure. Rice and pineapple.
I'd sure like to know the real story.

NO NO You didn't get it. You eat ONLY pineapple and rice. Actually it might cure my diabetes cause dead people don't have diabetes.
I bet that lady had told him to eat rice.
